PaperStream Capture Pro is a powerful document capture solution developed by PFU, a Ricoh company. It is designed to streamline high-volume scanning workflows and offers advanced automation, optical character recognition (OCR) and data extraction. As of May 2025, it supports scanners from all manufacturers, allowing both Capture Pro and Capture Pro Premium to work with any TWAIN-compliant device.
This updated version of a widely used capture application includes high-speed form recognition and broad scanner compatibility. Its user interface is intuitive and accessible, with tools like Batch Manager and a wizard-based profile setup that allow users to start scanning with a single touch, regardless of technical experience.
Capture Pro is built for A4 desktop scanning and includes features such as barcode recognition, redaction, intelligent OCR in five European languages and accurate interpretation of handwritten non-cursive text and tick boxes. It runs locally on user PCs and receives automatic updates with new features and improvements.
For organisations that require A3 support, higher volume scanning or the ability to import existing scanned files, Capture Pro Premium extends the same features to more demanding environments. It supports production-level scanners and enables file import for OCR and data extraction, making it suitable for complex workflows involving large field counts or mixed document types.
Both versions integrate with major document management systems through a wide range of pre-built connectors. For custom integration, the software provides an open API and access to PFU’s Co-Creation team. The Imaging Alliance Programme offers development tools, sample code and expert technical support.
In short, the main difference is hardware support and file import. Capture Pro is ideal for A4 and small to medium volumes without file import. Capture Pro Premium adds A3 and high-volume scanning plus file import.
