The Document Management Group attended the launch of Fujitsu’s exciting new ScanSnap model, the ScanSnap iX1500.

The event, held at Fujitsu’s London head office on Baker Street, was attended by a host of industry heavyweights including members of distribution teams, software integration developers and industry award organisers, along with some of Fujitsu’s own, very helpful, marketing department.

The product’s launch was simulcast around the world and contained promotional video’s surrounding the latest piece of ScanSnap software, ScanSnap Home, plus run-throughs of the iX1500.

Afterwards, attendees were invited to view a demonstration of the iX1500, with a final question and answer session rounding up the show.

ChannelPro journalists were present and asked our Managing Director for a few of his thoughts on the product and its software suite, to which he stated:

“From what I've seen so far, it's a fantastic product (and) what I've been really impressed with, I've got to be honest with you, is the software that now comes with it as well, and some of the features that can be offered to customers. Along with the traditional scanner, the software that used to be there was a bit limited, but now, it's got quite a lot of features. It's an ideal entry model into that product range”.

The iX1500’s capabilities are impressive, with a quicker output speed than its predecessor, the ScanSnap iX500, and features a 4.3-inch touchscreen user interface on the front of the machine, allowing up to 4 different users to configure the scanner to their liking.

For example, these configurations could consist of things like scanning restaurant receipts for those on the go and in need to claim expenses. A function button would appear on the home screen of the scanner in a designated colour, signifying that specific user. Four different colours are used for four different users, respectively. The receipts are scanned quickly, then processed.

Furthermore, the scanner’s bundled software, ScanSnap Home, then takes the scanned document and decides what to do with it next, on its own. It does this by using OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology and read text on the receipt and titling the file with that text – for example it might list the restaurant name and price of the bill as the file name and save it amongst all your other restaurant receipts.

ScanSnap Home is an improvement on the previously bundled ScanSnap software, as it takes all the separated software suites and merges them together. Features of various packages like ScanSnap Manager, ScanSnap Organiser and CardMinder are all now located on the one platform. This reduces the amount of time you need to spend on organisation and increases your efficiency.
