Epson LED Flatbed Scanner Technology
ReadyScan LED technology is a major advancement by Epson. The technology is built into modern Epson flatbed scanners and has advantages for the customer and the environment.
Flatbed scanners are ideal for digitising photographs, architectural blueprints, x-rays and film negatives. Two dimensional objects are placed on a glass surface. A mechanism moves a light source across the object, illuminating it, while a sensor records an image. Traditionally the light source, in flatbed scanners, has been a cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL). This kind of lamp has drawbacks. Power consumption is relatively high, which generates more heat and costs more to run. This has a damaging effect on the environment and the customer’s monthly outgoings.
Considering this, Epson have developed ReadyScan LED technology to replace wasteful CCFLs. Light Emission Diode lamps (LED) have several advantages over more traditional light sources.

The Epson Perfection V850 Pro is also an A4 flatbed scanner that produces superior optical images. Although the scanning resolution is the same as the V600, the V850 Pro has several extra attributes that enhance picture quality. This flatbed scanner is ideal for professional and semi-professional photographers. The Epson V850 Pro has High Pass Optics with anti-reflective coating, resulting in better quality scans. Extra film holders increase speed and productivity when batch scanning. Bundled software gives further options for image enhancement. Colour calibration software ensure scans are accurately colour corrected and Silverfast SE plus software gives the user access to multiple exposure and auto frame alignment features.
If an A4 scanner is not big enough for your needs, the Epson Expression 12000XL A3 flatbed scanner could be worth considering. This large flatbed scanner does everything the V850 Pro does but on a much grander scale. The unit is perfect for larger design environments where accurate reproductions are essential. Large blueprints, x-rays, artworks, photographs and film negatives can all be scanned in exceptional detail.
A larger surface area allows for more items to be placed on the scanner bed. The 12000XL can scan 30 transparency slides at a time, producing highly accurate image files that are perfect in both colour and tone.
