What is a Microfilm?

A microfilm is a type of storage where the original copy is printed to a much smaller version (usually 1/25th). A microfilm is literally a photographic copy of the original matter which has been recorded and different in nature to a compact disc, digital versatile disc or a blu-ray. A microfilm does not need software to be opened or read and as such has many benefits in particular to libraries or the legal industry to protect legal documents.

Who Would Use Microfilms and Microfilm Scanners?

Industries which have a large amount of documentation where the original look of the document is very important and cannot be disturbed get the most benefit from microfilms - these industries include but are not limited to libraries, archives, newspaper and legal.
