What is a Microfilm?

A microfilm is a type of storage where the original copy is printed to a much smaller version (usually 1/25th). A microfilm is literally a photographic copy of the original matter which has been recorded and different in nature to a compact disc, digital versatile disc or a blu-ray. A microfilm does not need software to be opened or read and as such has many benefits in particular to libraries or the legal industry to protect legal documents.
